All our firewood, mulch and soil products are produced from our wood lot at our garden center in Killingworth.  The best and straightest hardwood logs get saved and seasoned for two years before being processed into our premium firewood and the remaining logs are triple shredded into the foundation for our natural and dyed mulch products.  What do we do with the rest of it you ask?

The chips, brush and residual material are then relocated to our soil pit nestled in the back of our 80-acre farm in Deep River where they decompose into fungal rich compost over the course of several years.  During the decomposition cycle the static piles are turned periodically and the addition of manure helps accelerate the process as well as introduce microbial diversity which is key to creating our living soil products.  Our compost and soil are both approved for organic use and routinely tested for nutrient content and contaminants.

Fun Fact:  Our tree-based operation produces incredibly “clean” soil free of contaminants and forever chemicals and is used throughout New England and the tri-state area on Superfund Clean-up sites due to its ability to satisfy the incredibly strict testing requirements of the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers!
