Starting with the first garden center in Guilford, CT in 1970, Jerry & Louann Papoosha began what would become a decades long, family-run business.  After moving to Branford in 1985 their son Scott took over, bringing to the business a new skill set; landscaping, environmental cleanup, wetlands mitigation and site-work.  By the early 2000’s the family business had outgrown its operations so in 2004 they moved to their forever home in Killingworth, CT.  The garden center continues to grow and expand with Scott’s son, Sean, bringing yet a new level of passion and quality to our soil & mulch making operation; and his partner Becky adding organic botanicals, herbs and produce as well as the expansion of the retail store & cafe.  

While just celebrating his 88th trip around the sun in March, Jerry is still not quite ready to pass the torch as our head grower, but when he does rest assured the next generations are prepared to carry on the long tradition of growing spectacular ornamentals loved by our customers, while incorporating our own individual passions.  

For nearly 35 years our family garden center has been dedicated to meeting the demands of our customers, but it wasn’t until Scott’s life partner Becky joined the family business in 2017 that we developed a hyper focus on sustainability and organic practices. Becky’s commitment to wellness, community, and sustainability is evident in our herbal and organics program.

All herbs and vegetable seedlings grown and sold in our spring retail program are certified organic by Baystate Organic Certifiers so when you purchase our herbs and vegetable plants for your home garden you can be confident that they are grown with the utmost care and attention: no artificial fertilizers, growth regulators & never sprayed with harmful chemicals.

All fresh produce sold at the farm stand are grown with love down the road at our organic farm in Deep River or brought in from trusted local farmers equally committed to growing with sustainable and organic practices.
